Global Talent (subclass 858) visa

What is a Global Talent visa?

​

The Global Talent visa program is a permanent visa intended for highly skilled professionals
and their family members.

​

Post-Covid 19, the Australian government initiated a task force to bring the best and brightest
businesses and talents to Australia. The program targets exceptionally talented individuals
and experts at the top of their field who can drive innovation and high yield companies that
can bring new technologies, cutting edge research and development, IP and capital to
Australia.

​

This program is suitable for applicants with skills in identified priority sectors who have
expressed their interest and accepted the program. Only successful candidates who are
accepted to the program will be invited to apply for this visa.
 
You must meet a high standard and show an exceptional track record of professional
achievement. This may include senior roles, patents, professional awards and international
publications and memberships.

 

The program suites some PhD graduates, and certain PhD students who are about to complete
their thesis and can demonstrate their exceptional talent and international recognition in a
target sector.

In 2020-2021, there are 15,000 places available under the program.
To be granted a visa under the Global Talent Visa Program, you should be highly skilled in
one of the ten target sectors:

  • Resources

  • Agri-food and AgTech

  • Energy

  • Health Industries

  • Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space

  • Circular Economy

  • DigiTech

  • Infrastructure and Tourism

  • Financial Services and FinTech

  • Education

What is the eligibility criteria of Global Talent visa?

​

To be eligible to apply for the Global Talent Visa Program, you must:​

  • Prove you are internationally recognised with evidence of outstanding achievements

  • Be prominent in your field of expertise

  • Provide evidence that you would be an asset to Australia in your area of expertise

  • Have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in your field

  • You must be nominated by a recognised Australian organisation or individual (Australian Citizen or Permanent Visa holder) in Australia as a global talent. The individual/organisation must be in the same field as you.

Global Talent - High income threshold

​

You should have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work high-income threshold of AUD158,500. This figure is adjusted annually on 1 July.
Since early 2020 LifeinAus successfully supporting Distinguished Talent candidates (and their family members) who received their Permanent Resident visa within a couple of months.
